Biography

Originally from Cape Breton, NS, mezzo-soprano Mairi Irene McCormack is a versatile musician with a love for performing opera, classical, popular and folk music. She recently graduated from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music with a Performer Diploma in Vocal Performance. There she studied with Professor Timothy Noble and performed the role of Mrs. Sedley in IU Opera Theater’s production of Peter Grimes. In IU Opera Workshops, McCormack performed in scenes as Charlotte in Werther, Mrs. Grose in The Turn of the Screw, Meg in Little Women and Third Lady in Die Zauberflote, as well as the role of Miss Todd in a staged recital performance of The Old Maid and the Thief. McCormack also performed in the chorus of Madama Butterfly (IUOT) and in the ensemble The Forest of Dreams with Bloomington, Indiana’s New Voices Opera. She was also a frequent performer with the opera outreach program Re-imagining Opera for Kids.

Lessons

Mairi Irene runs an active voice studio for students of all ages. Lessons focus on the fundamental aspects of singing, including breathing, resonance, diction, communication and performance skills in additional to basic keyboard theory and musicianship. She is committed to helping each student achieve their unique goals, improve their technique, and expand their appreciation and love for music.  Though technical lessons focus on classical bel canto techniques, Mairi Irene loves to work on a variety of repertoire including pop, rock, folk and musical theatre. Along with individual lessons, there will be two studio recitals this year, several group lessons, and opportunities to prepare for festivals and RCM exams.
